Phone numbers on websites that aren't clickable create friction. On mobile devices, users have to type the number. On desktop, the call doesn't happen because the effort is too high. Click-to-call eliminates this media break.

Implementing Click-to-Call Correctly

The technical implementation is simple: tel: links in HTML. The strategic implementation requires more thought.

Phone numbers belong in the header, on contact pages and in CTAs. The tel: protocol is supported by all modern browsers and operating systems.

For conversion tracking, clicks on tel: links are captured as events in analytics. This tells you which pages generate calls so you can optimize your marketing accordingly.

VoIP and CRM Integration

Modern VoIP systems can be connected with CRM platforms. Incoming calls are automatically assigned to a CRM contact. The sales team sees the customer history when the phone rings.

Drupal can serve as the connecting link: the website generates the lead, click-to-call initiates the call, and the CRM logs the conversation. A closed chain from the first click to closing the deal.
